Children's Learning Centers

Children’s Learning Centres (Strengthening community identity with leadership, gender parity and life skill competencies)

Seeing the success of the Children’s College with tribal children, Pipal Tree conceived a different intervention to provide a conducive participatory learning environment for tribal girls and boys, school goers as well as drop outs, by establishing and strengthening 22 learning centers/children’s clubs in the tribal settlements.

Subsequently, in order to empower tribal children to learn on their own terms, and to express their knowledge and creativity in meaningful ways leading to meaningful livelihoods for the next generation.

The Children’s Clubs/Learning Centers were established by Pipal Tree to develop among the adivasi youth, consisting of both male and female genders, leadership capacities to strengthen community identity, gender parity and life skill competencies.

The purpose of these Children’s Clubs/ Learning Centers was to provide a conducive participatory learning environment for tribal girls and boys, school goers as well as drop outs. These centers help tribal children to learn on their own terms, and to express their knowledge and creativity in meaningful ways leading to meaningful livelihoods for the next generation.

The learning process is one of transformation and self-discovery that empowers them to develop personalities instilled with self-dignity and the aptitude to find appropriate livelihoods.

To that end, Pipal Tree has established 22 Children’s Clubs/ Learning Centers in the tribal settlements of H.D. Kote in Mysore district. Tribal youth are trained to function as facilitators in these learning centers to create a friendly and culturally safe learning environment for the tribal children to strengthen the academics and express themselves with self-assurance. Innovative methods are employed using the Navigated Learning Framework (NLF) based educational platform which uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) based interface to provide the children and their- families a self-paced, interactive and experiential learning tool and content.

Creative methodologies are used to strengthen their skills in reading, writing, math’s and science in addition to strengthening their academic basics. The learning process empower the children to express themselves in ways they find comfortable, using their mother tongue, folk art forms, traditional games, etc. Parents, community and stakeholders are integrated into the gamified and curricula based learning processes as co-participants.

Pipal Treehandholds trained tribal youth facilitators to conduct academic and life skill sessions for tribal children in 22 Children’s Clubs/Learning Centers.
